The title of the blog just about sums it up what has been happening in dear sweet Gracie's life.
Last week she went for her 2 year old check up. This doctor visit involved getting 2 shots and a TB test. We went back 2 days later to have her TB test checked. The first nurse that looked at it went and got a second nurse to look at it who in turn went and got the doctor to look at it. After feeling and measuring the bump it was decided that her TB test came back positive reactive to TB. We were told that we then needed to take her for a chest x-ray to see if her lungs were clear. I went immediately to the lab and had it done. Gracie did awesome. She stood perfectly still and let them take her x-ray. I wasn't home 20 minutes and the phone rang. It was the doctor telling me she had gotten the results of the x-ray and it was negative for TB. I'm amazed by modern technology. The x-ray was read and the results given to the doctor in less than 45 minutes. Even though the results were negative Gracie must still be treated since the skin test came back reactive. She will now be taking antibiotics for the next nine MONTHS. Yes, that's months, not days. There could be several reasons that her TB test came back positive. One, she was given the TB vaccine in China. Two, she was exposed at some time in her life to TB. I want to make this perfectly clear she is NOT contagious, she is being treated as a precaution. Even after being treated any TB test she takes for the rest of her life will come out positive.
Miss Gracie was also sent for blood work. This is just routine since we don't have a reliable medical history. They took 8 or 9 vials of blood. My little girl did great. She just sat there saying "owie, owie" with tears streaming down her face, but she didn't struggle. She was back to her normal self within a few minutes. She is so resilient.
We had Gracie's baby dedication at church on Mother's Day. In attendance were my mom, her sister Lois visiting from Wisconsin and her sister Susan visiting from Minnesota and my friend Cecily (who has been to all 4 of my children's baby dedications). Gracie did great and even let the pastor hold her on his knee and pray for her.
